In 1989, then Detective Sergeant Thomas Kontinos with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office in Ft. Myers, Florida was assigned to a Federal Task Force to investigate the murder of a Drug Enforcement Agency informant who was scheduled to testify before a Federal Grand Jury about cocaine trafficking at Ft. Myers Beach. During the investigation, the suspected murderer – and drug trafficker – fire-bombed the Ft. Myers DEA office building hoping to destroy all incriminating evidence; and, “to send the investigators a message!” The investigation was later dramatized on the television show The FBI Files – Deadly Threat– that featured Mr. Kontinos as one of the lead investigators.
